Hi, everyone. My name is Lucy Barrios, and I'm a parent of students who attend JRX Academy. Today I wanted to share my video testimonial. I'm excited to share a little bit of our journey — how we got here, what our experience has been like, and how it has positively affected our family. I'll start from the beginning. Our family has some special needs.

Some of our children are wheelchair-bound, and others simply weren't feeling challenged in public or charter school, so we were running into a lot of different obstacles. Another big challenge: most of us are not morning people. We were fed up with getting up at 4:30 in the morning to get a high schooler on the bus by 5:30.

Ditching that early-morning rush lifted a huge amount of stress off my shoulders and off my kids' shoulders. When we started looking at options for our children's education, one thing was clear: we really wanted to avoid those very early bus rides to a public or charter school. So we did some shopping around, and we found that there are five different options

you can choose from at JRX Academy. There's in-person, there's online, and there are several others. We chose the online learning option so our mornings could be calm, more focused and centered on our family. One of the perks is that we get to have breakfast together. But the biggest thing that helped us settle into online learning was preparing a space —

and the right mindset — for our students and our family. In the days leading up to the first day of school, we took time as a family to transform a corner of our house into a dedicated, school-themed space. We have a little whiteboard and school supplies right here in the space I'm sitting in now.

We also have their laptops set up on the tables, ready to go. Having that special area really helps the kids transition into a school mindset, and it got them excited for what was coming next. That was a great idea from the principal — he told us to make sure we had a school mindset and a space dedicated to learning.

That was one big thing that helped. The other thing I can say about JRX Academy is that they have really delivered on tailored learning. They built a personalized academic plan for each individual child I have. And I can't stress enough how much support we've had throughout the process — even before we

signed up, while we were still just trying to learn about the school, there were a lot of conversations. Once we decided this would be the school for my kids, the support grew even more, because we were trying to figure out how we would fit in, and they said, “Don't worry, we've got you.” Our biggest challenge before this

was finding a school tailored to my kids' unique interests, and JRX Academy completely delivered. From day one, each of my children received a personalized academic plan. They also received their own academic specialist and success specialist, and the principal personally communicated with our family and walked us through everything. student. That was no exaggeration — they followed through, and I'm really excited about that. I want parents to know that joining the school is not a scary process. The daily communication and leadership guidance has been another big positive. Our experience has been incredibly positive. We were always connected by video conference, every single day.

Whenever I share feedback from a parent's perspective, or the students share feedback from theirs or ask questions, the education and leadership team always gives us wonderful guidance and pointers on how to support learning in the online courses, extracurriculars and quests. It has been genuinely fun, and a really good experience getting through our first school days at JRX Academy.

Academics are the core, but they also offer leadership and entrepreneurship for high schoolers, and there's an athletics program that builds discipline. A Parent's Perspective
A second JRX Academy parent — not the family in the video above — wrote this reflection in their own words. We publish it unedited and anonymous.
When my child was first introduced to the JRX Academy model, they were pretty shy and still trying to find their confidence after struggling in a traditional public school setting. Academically, they were behind, but what concerned me just as much was that they had not really found confidence in themselves as a learner.
What I wanted most was for my child to have the chance to figure out who they are, what they are good at, and what they have to offer, instead of constantly feeling like they had to fit into a system that was not working for them.
That is one of the things I appreciate most about JRX Academy. My child is actually at the center of their education. The focus is not just on following rules, completing assignments, or doing the same thing as everyone else. The team takes the time to understand the individual child, where they are, what they need, and how they learn best.
I have seen such a difference.
My child has come out of their shell. They are making friends, participating more, becoming more confident, and making academic progress. I have also watched their curiosity grow. They are more willing to ask questions, try things, and even step into leadership.
What has been especially meaningful to me is watching my child begin to understand that they have a role in their own education. They are learning to take responsibility for themselves, recognize their strengths, and see that they have something valuable to contribute.
They are even learning that leadership does not mean having all the answers. Sometimes it means helping another student, sharing what you know, or supporting someone who may be at a different place in their own learning journey. Through QUEST, they are also beginning to understand what it means to contribute to the community around them.
That is what makes JRX Academy different for me.
My child is not being told to simply fit into a system. They are being given room to understand themselves, discover their strengths, contribute, and have a voice in their own educational experience.
I know there are a lot of children who are not thriving in traditional schools. That does not mean they are not capable. Sometimes they simply need a different environment and a different approach.
As a parent, it has been incredibly meaningful to watch my child become more confident, curious, engaged, and willing to lead. I am grateful they have a place where they are not only learning academically, but also learning who they are and what they have to offer.
