A day at JRX

What does a day at JRX look like?

In plain language: a steady rhythm of learning, movement, chosen work, and reflection — with adults who know each student by name. Here is how a typical day unfolds.

  1. 7:30–8:40 AM

    Before School Program

Before the formal learning day begins, students participate in supervised outdoor programming designed to promote healthy relationships, physical well-being, and joyful engagement. Activities may include free play, organized games, recreational sports, movement challenges, creative play, and opportunities to socialize with peers across age groups.

  2. 8:40–9:00 AM

    Everyone together

Each day begins with a whole-community gathering that brings students and staff together to build connection, energy, and purpose. Students participate in a daily warm-up, movement activities, or physical education games while receiving important announcements, celebrating achievements, and exploring a virtue to practice throughout the day.

  3. 9:00–10:15 AM

    Core academics

Students begin each day with approximately two hours of personalized computer-based learning in Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Academic Specialist then build on this foundation through focused instructional blocks that provide direct instruction, meaningful discussion, authentic practice, and targeted small-group support where it is needed most.

  4. 10:15–10:30 AM

    Reset and reconnect

Between focused academic blocks, students take a break to stretch, hydrate, and reconnect. This short transition builds community through informal conversation, shared responsibilities, and a chance to reset before the next learning block.

  5. 10:30–11:30 AM

    Core academics continues

Students continue computer-based learning in Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Academic Specialist then build on this foundation through focused instructional blocks that provide direct instruction, meaningful discussion, authentic practice, and targeted small-group support where it is needed most.

  6. 11:30 AM–12:00 PM

    Shared meal

Students eat together in a supervised, family-style setting. Older students help set up, serve, and clean up. Lunch is a community-building time as much as nourishment.

  7. 12:00–1:00 PM

    Movement

Every student moves every day — athletics, training, or active play.

  8. 1:00–3:00 PM

    Specials Quests

Students explore Arts, Athletics, Leadership, Law, Academics, Hospitality, and Technology while engaging in meaningful projects, workshops, and collaborative challenges. Learning extends beyond skill development as students contribute to JRX Academy Signature Projects, such as AmeriXa, and other initiatives that connect classroom learning with real-world impact. Every experience encourages creativity, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, and purposeful contribution.

  9. 3:00–5:00 PM

    After School Program

Learning continues beyond the school day through JRX Academy's After School Program, where students deepen their interests through the Specials Quests, contribute to JRX Academy Signature Projects such as AmeriXa, or explore new opportunities in a student-centered environment.

  10. 5:00–5:20 PM

    Dinner

Students gather for a shared evening meal in a supervised, family-style setting. This is a time to refuel, connect across age groups, and practice hospitality before the final mentoring block.

  11. 5:20–6:00 PM

    Small-group time with a mentor

What went well, what was hard, what to do differently tomorrow. Reflection is written down so growth stays visible. As part of mentoring, students end the day with free play among mentors.

After School Programming

A Typical After-School Rhythm

The JRX Academy After School Program extends the learning day through a purposeful rhythm of continued learning, meaningful relationships, nourishment, movement, mentoring, and play. Students receive the time, support, and flexibility to deepen their learning, pursue their interests, strengthen friendships, and finish each day feeling accomplished, connected, and balanced.

Transition & Community

The afternoon begins with a smooth transition into the After School Program. Students gather with friends, check in with staff, enjoy a shared afternoon snack, and prepare for the next phase of the day. This relaxed transition creates space to recharge, connect with others, and settle into a productive afternoon.

Extended Learning & Signature Projects

Students participate in an additional learning block designed to reinforce and extend the day's learning. Academic Specialists provide personalized coaching, targeted intervention, enrichment opportunities, quiet study, and small-group instruction based on each student's individual needs. Students also continue progressing through the Specials Quests, contribute to JRX Academy Signature Projects such as AmeriXa, and pursue long-term projects that benefit from extended periods of focused work and collaboration.

Shared Evening Meal

Students gather for a family-style evening meal that encourages conversation, hospitality, gratitude, and community. Sharing dinner together provides time to refuel, strengthen relationships across age groups, and prepare for the final mentoring experience of the day.

Mentoring, Movement & Play

The day concludes with small-group mentoring, outdoor recreation, movement activities, organized games, and unstructured free play. Students celebrate successes, reflect on challenges, set goals for tomorrow, and strengthen friendships through meaningful conversations with mentors and peers. These experiences transform the day's learning into lasting growth while promoting physical well-being, belonging, and joyful exploration.
